Honey Baked Ham Ingredients

This ham is all about the glaze. The recipe starts with a fully cooked spiral ham that we will only need to heat through and glaze. Super simple!

You only need a few basic ingredients to make this ham spectacular. The ingredients to make the sweet glaze will pair well with the savory and slightly smokey flavor of the ham.

  • Spiral Ham (cooked)
  • Butter
  • Honey
  • Brown Sugar
  • Dijon Mustard (option)
  • Orange Slices
  • Orange Zest
  • Cloves

Do you glaze a ham before or after baking?

Timing is important when making the perfectly glazed ham. Add the glaze too soon and your glaze will become caramelized too quickly, causing a char-like taste.

Because of the high sugar content in the glaze, you want to bake the ham at a moderate temperature before adding the glaze toward the end of the ham’s cooking time.

How to Make the Perfect Honey Baked Glazed Ham

First place the ham in a roasting pan. Add orange slices to the pan and cover the pan tightly with foil. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 30 minutes.

Make the glaze while the ham is in the oven. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar, dijon mustard (optional), zest of an orange, honey, and cloves, stirring constantly. Add the pineapple juice and bring the glaze to a low simmer.

After removing the ham from the oven, spoon and/or brush half of the glaze generously over the ham while the ham is still hot. Place the ham back into the over uncovered for 10 minutes. Brush the remaining glaze over the ham and bake for another 8 to 10 minutes until the ham is golden brown. Serve and enjoy.
